Art and Culture Translations

At Art in Translation we regularly provide translations for museums, foundations, institutions, cultural and art centres, exhibitions, publishing houses, galleries, auction houses, fairs, festivals, universities, private companies and government agencies, among other types of clientele. Most of the projects we receive are documents related to cultural events, prizes and competitions, conferences and lectures, exhibition catalogues, wall texts and exhibit labels, art journals and books on a variety of subjects and historical periods.

If we focus on the artists and the authors whose mission is to explain the meaning of art, we see that all exhibitions—whether individual, collective, touring, local or international—have one thing in common: the texts that accompany them. These words travel with the artworks to explain how the artist or exhibition curator perceives them, and in translation they must flow naturally without altering the essence of the message. Moreover, these texts are often intended for people from very different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, something the translator must bear in mind when working.

We have translated catalogues and publications on numerous artists representing many different periods and styles, including Antoni Tapiès, Cy Twombly, Jorge Oteiza, Manolo Valdés, Pablo Picasso, Yoko Ono and Ernesto Neto.

We have also translated literary works and texts on a wide variety of specialised subjects (painting, sculpture, architecture, music, literature, theatre, photography, film, graphic arts and decorative arts) by authors of different nationalities, such as Alberto Ruiz de Samaniego, Guillermo Solana, José Luis Borges, José Antonio Millán, Rafael Alberti, Rosa Martínez, Tomas Llorens, Guillaume Kientz and Jonathan Brown.
